The Small Growers web app is a free online resource for small-scale growers to predict agricultural insect and plant disease pressure. This article describes how to add or edit a weather data logger to your private and secure profile for customized analysis.
Where to get a compatible weather data logger
At this time, the Small Growers web app is configured to work with HOBO MX 2300 series bluetooth enabled data loggers. Contact Onset Computer Corp. to place an order.
How to add a new device to your profile
Sign in or sign up
Go to the Small Grower web app home page. Click 'Log in or sign up' at the center of the screen, or 'Login' from the menu bar, to access your private and secure Small Growers web app profile. If you don't have an account, sign up for one after clicking one of these links, and then proceed with these directions.
Add a new device
After login, click 'Profile' (1) and 'Add a new device' (2).
Choose a name for your device
Choose a unique name for your device.
Select the brand of your device
'HOBO logger' is pre-selected as the brand. The Small Growers web app is not configured for other brands at this time.
Enter your Hobolink 'username'
Select the model of your device
'MX 2300 series' is pre-selected as the model type. The Small Growers web app is not configured for other models at this time.
Enter the device serial number
Locate the eight-digit serial number, located on the sticker directly on your device next to a small QR code.
Enter the eight-digit serial number from your device.
Enter your 'Company Name'
Log into your hobolink.com account.
Click the 'Gear' icon and select 'Account Info.'
Make a note of your 'Company Name.' If this is blank, create one and save your updated 'Account Info.'
Enter your 'Company Name' exactly as it appears in HOBOlink from the previous step.
Enter location information for your device
The Small Growers web app requires latitude, longitude, and elevation of your device to provide precise and accurate information. But New York State Integrated Pest Management will always keep your information private and confidential using security best practices.
How to find the latitude of your device
On a desktop or laptop computer, go to maps.google.com. Zoom to your device location and right click. The first number (42.87657) is the latitude (distance in degrees from the equator) of your device.
Enter the latitude of your device in the Small Growers web app.
How to find the longitude of your device
On a desktop or laptop computer, go to maps.google.com. Zoom to your device location and right click. The second number (-77.00589) is the longitude (distance in degrees from the prime meridian in England) of your device.
Enter the longitude of your device in the Small Growers web app.
How to find the the elevation of your device
If you live in a rural area, or manage a plot at ground level in a populated area, go to FreeMapTools Elevation Finder, or a similar website to obtain your elevation (in feet).
If your farm, garden, or plot is on a roof or other elevated structure, please provide an estimate of actual elevation. This might be hard to do, but conditions are probably different that at ground level!
Enter your elevation in the Small Growers web app.
How to edit a registered device in your Small Grower profile
After login, click 'Profile' (1) and then 'edit' next to the registered device (2).
Modify the registered device as needed. Then click 'Update' at the bottom of the form.
