Blacklegged ticks and Lyme Disease
The blacklegged tick is the only tick that transmits the bacteria that cause Lyme disease in the northeast and Midwest. A different tick, the Western blacklegged tick, transmits the pathogens that cause Lyme Disease on the Pacific Coast.
